SENIOTEXX — Statement of Intent — Original Document

The
Manifesto.

What this is. What it is not. Why it exists. What it refuses to become. Read before proceeding.

This is not a publication. It is not a blog, a newsletter, a content platform, a brand, a community, a product, or a project. SENIOTEXX is an ongoing record of thought in the absence of commercial obligation. It has no audience target, no growth strategy, and no exit.

It exists because there are things worth saying that do not fit anywhere else. Things that are too long for a post, too irregular for a newsletter, too honest for an audience, and too serious to be called content. SENIOTEXX is the place for those things.

The name is not explained. It carries its own meaning for those who look for it, and none for those who don’t. This is intentional. The archive does not introduce itself. You find it, or you don’t.

Section I

On the Problem of Audience

Most writing published online is addressed to someone. It assumes a reader, imagines their objections, anticipates their attention span, and adjusts accordingly. This is a reasonable thing to do. It is also, when done reflexively, a form of self-censorship.

SENIOTEXX does not write for an audience. It writes because the writing produces something — a thought clarified, an observation fixed, a question sharpened — that would not otherwise exist. If that is useful to someone, that is a side-effect, not an aim.

“The moment you begin to write for readers, you begin to write against yourself. The interesting writing happens in the gap between what you meant to say and what you found yourself saying.”

This does not mean SENIOTEXX is indifferent to being read. It means the reading is secondary to the writing. The transmission is sent regardless of whether anyone receives it. The archive is maintained regardless of whether anyone visits.

Section II

On Regularity and Its Enemies

SENIOTEXX does not publish on a schedule. This is not a failure of discipline. It is a considered refusal.

The scheduled publication — the weekly newsletter, the bimonthly dispatch, the daily post — is a system designed for the convenience of the audience and the metabolism of the algorithm. It treats writing as a commodity produced at regular intervals, like a utility bill or a medication. SENIOTEXX is not interested in being a utility.

A transmission is sent when there is something worth transmitting. The interval between transmissions is not dead time. It is where the thinking happens. The silence between publications is as much a part of the archive as the publications themselves.

What SENIOTEXX Will Not Do

The following is not a list of rules. It is a description of what SENIOTEXX has already decided, and which it records here for clarity.

  • Sell anything. Not directly, not indirectly, not through affiliation, sponsorship, or the slow monetisation of attention. SENIOTEXX has nothing to sell. If that changes, SENIOTEXX will have become something else.

  • Optimise for engagement. The metrics of attention — clicks, time-on-page, shares, open rates — are not relevant here. A transmission read once by one person who needed it is worth more than a post shared by ten thousand people who forgot it immediately.

  • Explain itself to algorithms. The archive does not structure itself for discoverability, search ranking, or platform promotion. It exists outside those systems by design.

  • Simplify. Not everything can be summarised. Some ideas require length to exist at all. SENIOTEXX will not compress its thinking into a format that destroys the thinking.

  • Conclude. The archive does not reach verdicts. It describes. It observes. It raises questions without the pretence of answering them. The open question is the honest position.

  • Identify itself fully. SENIOTEXX has an author. That author does not require a biography here. The work is sufficient identification.

Section IV

On Language as the Subject

SENIOTEXX returns, persistently, to language. Not as a hobby or a specialism, but because language is the medium in which all the other questions are conducted. How we speak about time shapes how we experience time. How we name technology shapes how we relate to it. How we write about ourselves shapes who we believe ourselves to be.

The vocabulary of any era is not neutral. It is a record of what that era valued, feared, noticed, and overlooked. SENIOTEXX treats language as evidence — evidence of the shape of a moment, the texture of a particular year’s thinking.

“The archive is not a record of what happened. It is a record of what was considered worth keeping. These are very different things.”

Section V

On Memory as the Method

Memory is not a filing system. It is not a recording device. It is an argument — a continuous, partially conscious revision of the past in light of who we are now. SENIOTEXX is interested in this revision: in how we remember, what we choose to retain, what we let dissolve, and what dissolves without our permission.

In an age of total documentation, memory has become strange. We remember less because we record more. We outsource retention to devices and then wonder why our inner life feels thin. SENIOTEXX writes against that thinness — not with nostalgia, but with attention.

Section VI

The Transmission as Form

SENIOTEXX uses the word “transmission” deliberately. A transmission implies distance. Something sent from one place to another, across a gap that cannot be fully measured. The sender does not know exactly who receives it. The receiver does not know exactly from where it was sent.

This is how SENIOTEXX understands its own writing. It is sent into a space that has no fixed address. It arrives, or it doesn’t. The archive is the record of the sending, not the record of the receiving. What the reader does with a transmission is not SENIOTEXX’s business. That is as it should be.

The transmission is complete at the moment of writing. Everything after that is reception, which belongs to whoever receives it.
